WordPress has released its newest version, WordPress 3.3 which provides even more new features, better user interface, and a bit of a design facelift.

One of the most noticeable features in WordPress 3.3 is the new Toolbar, which combines the old header and admin bar into one new element. You’ll also notice the flyout out menus have been updated with a fresh new style. This new Toolbar will make it much easier to access elements of your WordPress 3.3 website when logged in.

Drag and Drop Media Upload

The most notable enhancement to the content editor, is the media upload feature, which automatically detects file types and allows drop-and-drag upload capabilities. This is one of our most anticipated new features as in previous WordPress versions it was easy to get confused as to which upload button you should be using per file (i.e. PDF, jpeg, mp3, etc). And how much easier is it to upload media by dragging and dropping into your WordPress website?!

There are a slue of other updates to the useability, functionality and aesthetics of WordPress version 3.3 which you’ll be able to explore with the new WordPress first-time tooltips and the dashboard welcome screen.

Before You Update to WordPress 3.3

Always backup your database and all your website files before you update to the new WordPress 3.3! We cannot stress this enough.

Too often we see people get excited about a new update and click the button to update without first backing up their website. If something were to go wrong during the WordPress update, you could lose all your hard work! So back up your site BEFORE you update!

WordPress Maintenance Free Network Updates

Google announced their new freshness algorithm in early November as yet another major change to their search ranking algorithm. This new change is expected to affect roughly 40% of all Google searches.

The new freshness algorithm aims to move the most recent, and still most relevant, search results to the top of the search engine results page. And it only makes sense from the searcher’s point of view.

Is Fresh Content More Relevant?

Have you ever tried searching for information in Google, only to find old and outdated articles? Like searching ‘best laptop computer this year’ to find an article that dates back 3 years ago?? Obviously this 3-year old article isn’t relevant to your search. So why should it come up as #1 in the rankings?

We have always stressed the importance of updating your website content on a regular basis as part of your SEO campaign. This really wasn’t just some sales pitch!

Hopefully, the official announcement from the Google solidifies the fact that regularly updating your website and keeping your website content fresh can truly help you gain higher search engine rankings. And now it’s more important than ever before to monitor your keywords and search engine rankings to see where you rank compared to your competition.

Today I’m going to walk you through how to can create a Google+ page for your business. It’s pretty easy and takes about 15 minutes or less. Best of all it can help you reach more customers, connect with colleagues, and increase the search engine rankings for your business!

By now you’re probably familiar of the Google+ Project which Google launched sometime over the summer. In short, the Google+ Project is a better way for us to connect, share, search and socialize while spending time on Google.

If you haven’t already created a Google+ profile I recommend you do that before trying to setup a Google+ page for your business.

Assuming you have a Google+ profile, lets start creating a Google+ page for your business.

1. Visit https://plus.google.com/pages/create

Again, I’m assuming you already have a Google+ profile. I haven’t tried this without one!

2. Pick your category

Google+ allows you to categorize your business page. Choose the category that best describes your business.

Choose a Google+ category that best describes your business

3. Add your info

This includes adding your business name, website, etc.

Add info to your Google+ business page

4. Click Create

Within a few moments your Google+ business page will be created! Now complete the final steps and start spreading the word!

Final Steps

Completing the final steps of creating your Google+ business page include adding a tagline describing your business and uploading a profile picture.

After these two things are complete, it’s time to start spreading the word about your new Google+ business page. Be sure to share your new page with friends and colleagues on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. You can also add a Google+ button to your website!

Once your page is created, you can start adding content, updating your profile, and adding more images. Be sure to update your Google+ business page with all of your other social business pages to ensure maximum web exposure.

Last but not least….

Add Borelli Designs to your circles by visiting our Google+ page and clicking the Add to circles button!
