With the widespread growth and usage of technology it is no surprise that advertisers are starting to move substantial amounts of their marketing budgets to online marketing. Advertisers see that they are able to spend less and target customers at better phases of the buying cycle. Online advertising is also highly trackable, unlike most traditional marketing (magazine ads, billboards, television/radio ads).

While there are numerous places online that you can go to advertise your products and services we will only be discussing the two that we feel are the most successful – Google AdWords and Facebook.

Goggle searches account for almost 92% of all searches done on the internet, so why wouldn’t you want your ads to show up in Google every time someone searches for a keyword or phrase related to your company? With Google AdWords you have the ability to use their Search Network or Display Network to run your ads on. This not only opens up the ability for you to show up on Google’s site but also on over one million other websites around the world as well.

When getting started Google provides numerous tools to assist you with finding the right keywords, creating ads, narrowing down a target audience, and so much more. Before your ads can go live you will need to decide on a budget for your campaign, based on where you want to rank for your specific keywords. Don’t worry, it will take some time to test your ads and figure out what budget is right for you.

After your ads are up and running you will be able to monitor them to see which keywords are the most popular, which ads are performing the best, where your conversions are coming from, and even what devises are being used to click on your ads. The amount of information that you can get from this advertising is amazing and can then help drive the messaging and tactics used in your traditional marketing.

Facebook

By now we all know how popular Facebook is. If you don’t have a Facebook profile for your business my guess is that you at least have a personal profile for yourself. Advertising on Facebook has proven to be extremely successful for a large number of businesses and here’s why.

Facebook offers multiple ways to advertise to your target audience. You are able to create ads (these only show up on the right hand side of your Facebook screen) or you can do something called a Page/Post Sponsorship, with have the ability to show up right in someone’s new feed.

Another nice feature of Facebook Advertising is that you are able to be extremely specific as to who you want to target your ads to. Yes, you can target by location, age, gender and all the common demographics but you also have the ability to target based on interests, connections, relationship status, and education!

Just like Google AdWords you are able to specify the budget that you want to use and can be charged per Click or per Impression and the reporting is great. With Facebook you are able to track your clicks, impressions, social impressions, likes to your page and more.

Advertising online is already becoming a necessity in keeping your business competitive. While it does require some additional time it is well worth it in the long run.
